Day in the Virtual Assistant Life: Nicole Lazar

Lazar & Company virtual assistant Nicole Lazar discovered her passion four years ago after meeting her husband, Andrew. Her workload practically doubled overnight, but she couldn’t have been happier.

“Working with Andrew was my first taste of the executive assistant life, and I quickly discovered that I loved it,” said Nicole.

“Not to toot my own horn, but I was also good at it.”

“I always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom,” Nicole said. “So, I didn’t want to go to just any nine to five where I didn’t enjoy my work. I also wanted to remain involved in family and community as much as possible.”

Nicole began her job search in earnest but found it challenging to find opportunities to satisfy her professional and personal goals. So, she put out a plea to friends and family to see if anyone could help point her in the right direction. Nicole was excited but skeptical when a friend told her about possibly working as an executive assistant from home.

“I didn’t really know anything about working remotely,” she said. “I’d always had an office job. I know it isn’t for everybody, but the idea of working from home was a dream for me. So, when I heard about BELAY, it seemed almost too good to be true.”

Three years later, Nicole says it is everything she had hoped for and then some.

“Now, I can’t really imagine doing anything else.”

Nicole currently supports six clients. At least six times per week, she meets with them on video chat to discuss their needs for the coming days. Outside these meetings, she and her clients usually keep in touch via e-mail and text. Her days mainly involve e-mailing, scheduling, event planning, meeting reservations, and other administrative tasks.

However, Nicole’s working relationship with her clients has expanded to include new responsibilities and roles. She now handles membership invoicing for one client and has recently undertaken the role of project manager for a client’s new hiring and recruitment campaign.

Despite working remotely, Nicole always feels connected. In her three years with Lazar & Company, she has built meaningful personal and professional relationships with colleagues and clients. In fact, with one of her clients, their working relationship has even blossomed into a friendship.

“This client lives just over 30 minutes away, so we make a point to meet face-to-face at least once a month. But it actually goes beyond that. Over time, we’ve also become friends. He and his wife visit me and vice versa!”

Working at Lazar & Company has allowed Nicole and her family the rare opportunity to fulfill their spiritual, personal, and professional goals all at once. And now, with her second child at 18 months old, the need for work-life integration has never been greater.

“I wanted to do something that I loved and that I was good at, and still remain a stay-at-home mom. At Lazar & Company, I’m doing that.”
